There are also an infinite number of universes where the box falls into the water, and an infinite number of locations those infinite number of boxes could be in, with an infinite number of identical worlds where a small thing is changed, like a lady in China decided to paint her toes pink instead of red on a Tuesday in 1987. What if he makes it back to a universe where everything was the same but its a different Jason, Jason 3, who decided to do everything that Jason 2 did? Would he know thats not his wife, would he know thats Jason 3 and not Jason 2?

You have spoken everything completely accurate. I cannot get this book. None of it makes sense to me at all. AT ALL! Honestly, didn’t get it. It’s a copy of the name of the wind and the beginning, then it’s random with completely variable power structures, and then they hit you with one dark horrific bit that doesn’t fit with its tone. Honestly it just doesn’t make sense to me. Also, Grimdark is a very specific thing, with specific tone, characters and everything else. This is not grimdark in any way. Violence, horror and gore do not, a grimdark novel make. Grimdark is not this.

See, I'm kinda the opposite. There's this crazy thing that people do where if you tell them they are stupid their entire life, they will act in ways to reinforce the message they've been fed. And that's my problem with Christianity. If you tell someone they are inherently evil their entire life, that they are full of sin, then they will act to reinforce that message subconsciously. And like.. if the last eight ish years have taught us anything, people who are afraid will absolutely lash out. The message that 'You were created by divinity as a reflection of that divinity and can live up to that potential by sheding worldly things like fear.' is much closer to the teachings of Jesus than anything that came after the doctrine of original sin being accepted in theologic circles. As for you thinking specifically that the theological message is Wrong, it can't be. To say it's wrong is to say your beliefs are right. But if they are right, they are not beliefs, they are fact. Which takes away the whole reason god want you to have belief in the first place. Saying it doesn't jive with your belief system is fine. Don't get me wrong, but subtley positioning yourself as a defender of the gospel and faith against others trying to do good in a way you don't think is possible is the exact opposite of what your supposed to be doing. I say all this as an ex Christian who was well on their way to being a man of the cloth before I realized how tainted and controlling religion has become. You don't need the gospel or the Bible to be close to God. Like, really all you need is some passages from the book of Mathew. Pray, love your neighbor as yourself, everyone is your family, when you see those in need help them. Just some food for thought.

Man, are you a perfectionist where no one is ever good enough? There are a trillion different audiences. If the authors are not speaking to you, read something else. It seems like you have a lot of personal problems you are projecting. You are just not their audience. You clearly don't get many of these books, so read something else. Geez. Unless this is all a shtick??? Don't go after living authors who struggle with things like ADHD and resulting defensiveness (Rothfuss). Every author does not OWE you the perfect book for you. I am sure Rothfuss hates the narcissistic readers who think he owes them his blood, sweat, and tears. This sounds like teenagers: if I don't understand it, that means it's stupid. I have no issues with his books. They are half poetry, and that's what makes him good. You don't have to understand every moment. And yes, he has a final book to tie it together, but his ADHD PLUS his reaction to your trolling has frozen him. YOU guys are partly responsible for making him freeze. Leave him ALONE!

Listening to you rant about the KKC was like listening to someone debate a subject with only one piece of evidence. You said the same thing three different ways. To say that the story is full of plot holes when it’s not finished is a fallacy. The story simply isn’t finished. There are literally a dozen speculations that make a significant amount of sense and piece the story together nicely. I’m sure that if Rothfuss dies before finishing his story and the rights to his story pass on to someone else, they will either finish it for him like Sanderson did for Jordan.. or they will discover that he had a box of notes with ideas about the ending or the actual ending that he said he’s known the whole time. I think the real issue is that he’s trying to cram all of this into one book and he’s either trying to keep the word down or struggling over something silly.

The rant at the end of Brian's section made me think of John Steinbeck. Just. Why is every book Steinbeck writes is sad and everyone sucks? I mean his prose is beautiful, yes, but I wanted to read to be sad I'd read the obituary. Not Mice and Men.

Currently reading Elantris now. About 55% through it. Def enjoying it so far, love the political intrigue and mystery behind everything. But the pacing is really making it a hard one to binge through. Excited to finish though, so i can start the blade itself by joe ambercrombie and his first trilogy. Should burn up enough time before i start stormlight book 4 Rhythm of War. Been holding out on reading it closer to the release of book 5 in Dec. So i won't have to wait too long to findout what happens. Anyway great video, comment for the algorithm, and subbed for future content / support 🤘🏽

Fun fact, this book was written one half life of Strontium-90, 28 years before would-be Ronald Reagan was elected Governor of California. Meaning, if Du Maurier owned 100 grams of Strontium-90 when the book was written, she'd only have 50 grams of it left when Reagan was elected. Crazy coincidence?

So because Kaladin doesnt have active romance in the novels, Sanderson hates us, that's just ridiculous, one, you are reading fantasy, not romance or erotica, two, Kaladin's struggle is about justice and morality, not loneliness, three, Sanderson is one of the most appreciative authors of his fanbase, i feel like including him on a list like this is and on the thumbnail is just clickbait

Will Wight's building more than a story, a world, characters, or theme. He's building credibility. It requires a lot to take risks that we care about, and Wight's synthesis of realism, respect, consistency, and innovation allows him to reach the heights of great fantasy.

Specifically because he seemed to be cashing in on the “Christianizing” of horror and violence and disgust, Ted Dekker has always creeped me out. Even more so after seeing him on interviews. Sorry to be of the opposite opinion of his books. 😝

The Kingkiller Chronicles, so far, is a self-inflicted Firefly. Book 3 could have been written from scratch 3 times if mirroring the 4 year release cycle between book 1 to book 2. It is also possible, like you mention, that he has no real clue where this is going. Which would be akin to the Lost team of Lindelof and Cuse. They document how they left everything so open ended but they didn't lack the skill to tie up all of the loose ends in a way that was actually satisfying. Everyone is frustrated at Rothfuss.

I am regarded by family as the ice queen because I don’t cry and I’m tough and unsentimental, but, I wept throughout ‘A Man Called Ove’ then watched the Swedish film and wept time and time again. When I finished the book I felt bereft that it was over. Backman is a genius - his writing so spare and simple but his emotional impact is enormous.

I fell for the art like you. I’m on chapter 8 and I find the protagonist and his “ability”extremely dull and a poor decision for a proclaimed cyberpunk story. I was so frustrated I stopped reading it and found your review. Now I’m going to see it through based off what you said. Thanks for your help
